Why NO READ exists

NO READ is what First Down Intel shows when it has no qualified read to present for a game. It is an honest empty state, not a verdict.

What it means

When the Desk shows FDI Position: NO READ, First Down Intel currently holds no governed model position on that game. No qualified FDI model read is being presented.

NO READ means FDI has no scored read it can use for a Position on this game. It is not a PASS: a PASS is a read FDI produced and classified, and none exists here.

It is not an instruction

NO READ does not tell you to act, and it does not tell you to stand aside. “FDI has nothing qualified to say about this game” and “FDI recommends passing on this game” are different statements, and only the first one is being made.

An Intel Score is not a position. It describes how a read was built, and a game with no position is not a game FDI decided against.

Why weak information is not filled in

It would be easy to put a number on every game. It would also be misleading: a read built on missing or conflicting evidence looks exactly as confident on a screen as one built on solid evidence, and the reader cannot tell them apart.

So FDI does the opposite. Where the evidence is not there, the Desk says so, and nothing is estimated to fill the gap. Insufficient evidence stays insufficient evidence.

The market context is still there

NO READ does not invalidate the rest of the game. Market consensus, line movement, book coverage, key-number context, and any governed model view or Intel Score that does exist for the game are all still there to read.

Find clean reads. Avoid chaos.

Many NFL games in a given week are genuinely noisy: conflicting signals, thin evidence, late uncertainty. Showing that plainly is part of the product. A clean read is worth more when it is not surrounded by forced ones, and a quiet game is information too.
